Practical Nursing

Program Description
The Arkansas State Board of Nursing approves the Practical Nursing program at Southeast Arkansas College with regular evaluations to ensure a quality program of education in the nursing field. Practical Nursing students are prepared for giving direct and primary nursing care under the immediate supervision of the clinical instructor, staff R.N., and/or physicians in the cooperating clinical facilities. Upon completion of the program, the student will be eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) for licensure as a practical nurse. Besides meeting the state minimum requirement for licensure, the curriculum also serves as a bridge program for students who want to continue their education in nursing or other allied health professions. Students who successfully complete the program can transfer up to fourteen (14) semester credit hours to a college or university.

Nursing Assistant

Program Description
The Nursing Assistant program focuses on safe and effective performance of the student in providing care in a home or in a health-care setting. Emphasis is placed on specific Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aid duties and on the concept pertaining to the psychosocial aspect of care giving.

Clinical hours are spent in a long-term care setting providing hands-on care to the residents.

The curriculum has been developed in accordance with the Health Care Finance Administration under the OBRA 1987 Guidelines and Rules and Regulations for Home Health Agencies in Arkansas. The course is coordinated and instructed by a Registered Nurse. Graduates meet Arkansas Department of Health requirements for a home health aide and are eligible to take the clinical skills and written examinations that lead to Arkansas State Certification as a Nursing Assistant (C N A). The Arkansas Department of Human Services Division of Medical Services, Office of Long Term Care, approves this program.
