Print, non-print and
electronic information resources:
Information on the
Library’s print and non-print collections is contained in the On-Line
Public Access Catalog (OPAC). Books, audio and video tapes and music
and data CDs are divided into Reference and Circulating collections and
arranged by Library of Congress (LC) classification number. New materials
are added to the Library collections regularly and suggestions for titles
to be purchased are always welcome.
The Periodical
Collection contains current and back issues of journals, magazines and
newspapers and is arranged alphabetically by title. The Vertical File contains
flyers, brochures, pamphlets and clippings and is arranged alphabetically
by subject in file cabinets near the Library’s public access computers.

Additional print collections
include Arkansas Telephone books, college catalogs for institutions in Arkansas
and surrounding states, and SEARK College and Arkansas Department of Higher
Education documents.
SEARK Instructors may
create Reserve collections
of library or personal material for their students. Reserve material is
generally restricted to in-library use.
TV/VCRs, digital cameras,
external computer storage devises and other types of electronic and AV equipment
are available for in library use or for check out by faculty or staff members.
Electronic information
resources available in the library include Internet based and CDRom subscription
databases to support the programs and courses offered by the College.
Services for students
and faculty:
The Library houses
12 public access computers with Internet access; 1 for use with library
or personal informational CDRoms, and 1 with MSOffice software. All library
computers have printing capabilities and the Library does not charge for
printing school related material.
The Interlibrary
Loan service will locate and borrow material not locally available for
SEARK College students, faculty and staff. Books, periodical articles and
other types of library material can be requested through this program.
Reference assistance
and/or individual instruction in how to use the library’s resources
is available as needed.
Library instruction
for groups or classes will be arranged at the instructor’s request.
A self-service coin-operated
photocopier is located in the library’s copier room. Copies are $.10

Individual test
proctoring is available at the request of the instructor.
Distance Learning Courses
and Services:
The Distance Learning
Coordinator (located in the Library) coordinates and supports the College’s
efforts to expand access to courses using non-traditional methods of delivery.
Credit courses are offered via:
Compressed Interactive
Video (CIV) where class sessions are transmitted between the College’s
Pine Bluff Campus and other sites in the College’s service area. CIV
can also be used for one-time workshops or meetings allowing visual and
auditory interaction in real time despite physical separation.
Telecourses
are commercially prepared courses broadcast by the Arkansas Educational
Television Network (AETN) or our local TV65. Students enrolled in Telecourses
watch the filmed presentations and complete assignments as directed by their
SEARK instructor. Most Telecourses require two take-home and on-campus mid-term
and final exams. SEARK College is a leader in the state, delivering more
telecourses per semester than any other two or four institution of higher
learning.
Internet
courses utilize the Internet to deliver all course content, provide
for instructor-student interaction and to evaluate students learning with
on-line quizzes and exams. Internet courses are available in a variety of
subject areas with new courses being developed by SEARK faculty members
regularly.
The Distance Learning
Coordinator also works with SEARK instructors adapting distance learning
technologies and techniques for incorporation into more traditional learning
environments. Instructors interested in developing new Internet based courses
or in making use of the WebCT or Respondus software for face-to-face classrooms
should contact the Distance Learning
Coordinator.
The Learning
Assistance Laboratory and Developmental Studies Classroom are located
in Technology Center North, rooms 208 & 210 with the programs’ Coordinator’s
office located between them.
The Carl D. Perkins Grant
funds are used to support programs and projects which support vocational and
technical education including:
The development of
Internet based courses and a Distance Learning Course Development Center
to support that development.
A Story Telling
and puppet collection to enhance the Early Childhood Development program.
Furnishing of
the Information Systems Technology Classroom.
