President's Message

Dear Student:

We are thrilled about the changes that have come to SEARK College within the past year. To say that we are excited about the new buildings being completed is an understatement. The Technology Center is being filled with faculty and staff and classes began this past spring semester. The new library is looking each day more and more like its artistic rendering and we will soon celebrate its grand opening. The renovations to the Early Childhood Development Center are finished and are beautiful as well as utilitarian.

Southeast Arkansas College continues to build and expand because we are an Institution that celebrates excellence. Excellence is achieved by constantly renewing and updating instruction, services, and facilities. Our student body is dynamic and, therefore, requires that we anticipate future needs to remain proactive. We are striving to do just that.

Excellence requires that we constantly change. We do not change for the sake of changing. We change to incorporate new requirements from the state, accreditation revisions, new knowledge and discoveries, and new methods and techniques coming from the workplace. Excellence is also the product of successful planning. Successful planning is realized when need is married to resources and strategies are implemented that take into account outcomes and impact on the learner.

The new Technology Center is a product of nearly ten years of savings and careful budgeting. Through careful planning, SEARK College was able to pay for the Technology Center without any indebtedness. The new library was constructed with money from the Bond program, and the early childhood development renovations were provided through a grant from the Department of Labor.

We will be excited with our recent accomplishments. Perhaps more importantly, we will be honoring the years that staff and faculty have endeavored to spend as little as possible to realize the dreams of better facilities and better opportunities for students. It is with humble and thankful hearts that we celebrate this outstanding achievement for our students, our community, and for future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Phil E. Shirley, Ph.D., President
Southeast Arkansas College
