On Wednesday, January 3, 2018, Southeast Arkansas College welcomed not only a new year, it also welcomed a new president. President Steven Bloomberg had his first official day as president of SEARK College and looks to the future for many great things to be accomplished in 2018.
“I am excited to start this process and look forward to promoting a dialogue that is centered in collaboration and honest input. Over the next several weeks we will be engaging faculty, staff and students, as well as many different partners in the community, as we develop a foundation for continued success and growth as an institution” President Bloomberg said.
Announced on November 30, 2017, the Board of Trustees for Southeast Arkansas College announced Steven Bloomberg as the college’s next president. The Board appointed Mr. Bloomberg based on his extraordinary academic background, creative leadership, and an entrepreneurial spirit focused on transforming organizations and higher education for the better.
In just over a month since the announcement, President Bloomberg and his wife Lynette, have bought a home and moved to Pine Bluff. According to Bloomberg, “It is important for us to go “all in” and dedicate ourselves to be part of the community. Pine Bluff is now our home and we look forward to making great friends and memories.”
Bloomberg has set in motion a 100 Day plan that engages key constituencies, both internal and external, that include area high schools, elected officials, as well as business and economic development leaders from throughout the college’s six county service region. Bloomberg stated, “We look forward to fostering a dialogue focusing on what SEARK can do for the region and how we can be a partner in growth.”
A dedicated scholar and educational innovator, Mr. Bloomberg has committed his career to education reform, the design of high-performance organizations, and extensive research on education and skill-creation systems for prospective students requiring an opportunity to improve their current life-skills and choices.
Mr. Bloomberg was previously the Executive Vice President at Oklahoma City Community College, OK. In addition, he was the Vice President for Community Development at Oklahoma City Community College, OK, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of LaVerne, CA, a Master's in Education from West Texas A&M University, TX, and is currently finishing his Doctorate in Higher Education Leadership from the American College of Education, IN.
