Dr. Tyrone Jackson Named President of Southeast Arkansas College
The Board of Trustees of Southeast Arkansas College (SEARK) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tyrone Jackson as the college's next President, effective July 1, 2024. Dr. Jackson, currently serving as the President at Mississippi Delta Community College, MS, brings with him a wealth of experience and a steadfast commitment to student success.
With over thirty years of experience in education, including leadership roles at Hinds Community College, MS, Dr. Jackson has demonstrated a deep understanding of community college dynamics and a passion for fostering student growth and achievement. His educational background includes a Doctorate of Education in Professional Studies/Educational Leadership, a Master of Education in Social Sciences/Sociology, and a Bachelor of Science in General Studies/Sociology, all from Delta State University.
Upon accepting the position, Dr. Jackson expressed his gratitude and excitement, stating, "I am honored to be named as the next President of Southeast Arkansas College. I thank the Board of Trustees for their confidence in me to serve as SEARK’s new leader. I am committed to collaborating with internal and external stakeholders with the ultimate goal of promoting student success. I am excited and look forward to arriving on campus in July."
Rebecca Pittillo, Chair of the Board of Trustees, emphasized Dr. Jackson's qualifications and vision for SEARK, saying, "With Dr. Jackson’s thirty years in education and extensive experience in community college leadership and accreditation, the board of trustees is confident in the future success of Southeast Arkansas College. He fully understands the importance of working with key stakeholders to accomplish the college mission of building a community of lifelong learners committed to becoming the leaders of tomorrow."
Dr. Jackson's appointment marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in SEARK's history, following the tenure of previous president Dr. Steven Bloomberg who served from 2018 to 2024.

Dr. Jackson’s Full Bio:
Dr. Tyrone Jackson was reared in Rosedale, MS where he attended high school before continuing his education at Delta State University. At DSU, Jackson received a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s and doctoral degree in education.
Jackson also began his professional career at Delta State, where he continuously progressed through the administrative ranks. He began his service at the institution as an admissions counselor, where he recruited students across Mississippi and bordering states.
Jackson next served Delta State as Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life/Director of Multi-Cultural Affairs, where he assisted in the management and supervision of residence halls and apartment units while also being responsible for promoting diversity activities on campus.
After serving in student services for a number of years, he transitioned to the academic side of the institution to the Division of Graduate and Continuing Studies, where he served as Director of Graduate Studies, then Assistant Dean, and later as Interim Dean. During his tenure in these capacities, he successfully reinstituted the Graduate Studies Office, where the graduate school experienced a record increase in enrollment.
Upon leaving Delta State University, Jackson continued his career at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where he served as Associate Vice President for Student Services and Dean of Student Services on the Jefferson Davis campus. His responsibilities included leading student services, the departments of admissions & records, financial aid, counseling, student activities, fitness center, testing, and police operations.
Before beginning his service as President at Mississippi Delta Community College, Jackson served as Associate Vice President for Student Services at Hinds Community College and Vice President for the Utica Campus.
Jackson has served on numerous boards and received many accolades for his accomplishments. While in the Delta region, he served as a board member for Habitat for Humanity, United Way, and United Village and graduated from Delta Emerging Leaders and Leadership Mississippi. While on the Coast, he served on the Harrison County Youth Leadership and Gulfport Chamber of Commerce Boards. He is a graduate of the Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy and Leadership Gulf Coast. In addition, he is a member of the oldest historically African American fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., who named an MDCC scholarship in his honor. Jackson currently serves as a member of a number of organizations including the Board of Trustees of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and a Mississippi Humanities Council board member.
Of all the honors and accolades surrounding his name, he is proudest to be married to Kashanta and the father of two children, Tyler and Kennedi.
