Financial Aid Information Regarding 8-week & Intersession Courses

**All charges will be applied for each class at the time of registration, regardless of the class start date.**

8-week Classes

Pell Eligibility Information 

Students who enroll in 6 credit hours or less during the 1st 8 week courses will only be eligible for a portion of their Pell grant until the 2nd 8 week courses begin, if they are enrolled in 2nd 8 week classes.

  • 1-5 credit hours= Less than ½ time Pell
  • 6-8 credit hours= ½ time Pell
  • 9-11 credit hours= ¾ time Pell
  • 12+ credit hours= Full credit time Pell

Note: If a student’s enrollment is split between the 1st 8 weeks and 2nd 8 weeks (12 credit hours total), they will not be considered full-time until the 2 nd 8 week courses begin and attendance requirement has been met by the respective census date for the course (refer to Academic Calendar).

Student Loan Eligibility Information

  • You must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours to be eligible for a student loan.
  • If you are enrolled in at least 6 credit hours but less than 6 hours have actually begun, you will not be eligible for your loan disbursement until you have begun attendance in at least 6 credit hours.

Intersession Classes

Pell Eligibility Information

  • If you were enrolled in 12 or more credit hours prior to the Intersession classes beginning, your Pell will not increase once the Intersession classes begin. At this point you would have already reached your maximum Pell eligibility for the semester.
  • If you were enrolled in less than 12 credit hours prior to the Intersession classes beginning, you may be eligible for a Pell increase but not until the Intersession classes begin and your attendance has been verified.
  • If your total enrollment for the semester will not equal at least 6 credit hours until the Intersession classes begin, you will not be eligible for student loans until the Intersession classes begin and your attendance has been verified.

Financial Aid Refund Process

  • The college has a refund process schedule in place to generate refunds on a regular basis as the funds become available.
  • The loan disbursement dates set by the US Department of Education indicate the earliest dates that’s loan funds may be received by the school. These disbursement dates determine which refund cycle a student’s loan funds can be refunded.
  • SEARK’s Financial Aid and Business Offices are committed to processing refunds for all students on a regular basis. Every effort will be made to include each student in the earliest available refund batch as the student’s financial aid funds become available.
