SEARK College Students Receive Foundation Scholarship
On October 28th, 2020 Students from Southeast Arkansas College were awarded one of nineteen scholarships available to assist in funding for both the Spring 2020 and Fall 2020 school year. Due to the pandemic, we had to postpone the Spring 2020 event. The scholarships were presented by Nick Cox, SEARK Grants Committee Chairperson, the referring professor, and a representative from the respective scholarship. SEARK Foundation members, Ms. Janice Acosta, Chairperson, Ms. Jerlene Washington, Secretary, David Smoke, Treasure, Dr. Rachel Miller, Ms. Floretta Scott, and Mr. Tavonte Calhoun were in attendance for the awards. Mrs. Barbara Dunn, Director of College Development extended a welcome to all event attendees, President Steven Bloomberg shared remarks and presented Daryl Scott, past Foundation Chairman with a special plaque for his outstanding service to the Foundation Board and Mrs. Janice Acosta, Chairperson recognized the Board Members present.
SEARK College Foundation Scholarship - six scholarships were established for students attending SEARK College in each academic department: 2- Nursing and Allied Health, 2- Technical Studies and 2- General Studies (1-English and 1- Math/Science). These scholarships will be available each fall and spring semester. The scholarship requires a recommendation from a SEARK College instructor and a completed application by the student. Students must have 1) completed 12 credit hours at SEARK, 2) a cumulative 2.0 grade point average, and 3) enroll in at least 6 credit hours.
Joyce Ragland-Vance Scholarship – a scholarship is available for students enrolled in the RN (Generic Option) Program at SEARK College. Recipients must 1) enroll as a full-time student, 2) be at least 25 years of age at beginning of fall semester, 3) and reside in the SEARK College service area that includes Jefferson, Cleveland, Desha, Drew, Grant and Lincoln counties
William A. Strong, Sr. Scholarship – an academic scholarship is available for students enrolled in the Technical Studies program (Drafting and Computer Aided Design Technology; Electrical and Electronics Technology; Industrial and Mechanical Technology; Welding Technology) at SEARK College - Recipients must 1) enroll as a full-time student 2) completed at least one semester at SEARK with a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or above, 3) be 18 years of age or older, 4) and reside in the SEARK College service area that includes Jefferson, Cleveland, Desha, Drew, Grant and Lincoln counties.
Edna Blair Practical Nursing Scholarship – Edna Blair was a loyal and dedicated nurse at Jefferson Regional Medical Center/ Davis Life for 33 years and a graduate of the Pines Vocational-Technical College (also known as Southeast Arkansas College) Practical Nursing Program. The mother of five children, she worked full-time and successfully completed her degree at the College. The Scholarship is intended to be used to assist a current student who otherwise would find it difficult or impossible to attend SEARK and ultimately obtain a college certificate or degree without financial assistance.
SEARK Outstanding Academic Scholarship – The Scholarship is intended to be used to assist two academically outstanding students: one new, first-term Associate’s degree student with the top GPA and one second-year student, who has completed 30 hours towards an Associate's degree with the top GPA.
President’s Scholarship – The Scholarship is intended to be used to assist SEARK students who are in need of funds for tuition, fees and /or books. The recipient must reside in Jefferson County, Arkansas.
Bloomberg Family Scholarship – The Scholarship is intended to be used to assist returning Seark students who resides in SEARK six county service area, completed 15 hours toward an Associate or Technical Degree, G.P.A. of 3.0 (4.0 scale), must enroll in 12 credit hours.
Kevin and Tanja Bonnette SEARK Scholarship (Fall) – The Scholarship is intended to assist a new non-traditional, first term student enrolled in Practical Nursing Program. The recipient must reside in Jefferson County, have minimum GPA of 2.5 (4.0 scale), and must enroll in at least 12 credit hours.
Kevin and Tanja Bonnette SEARK Technical Scholarship (Spring) – The Scholarship is intended to assist a continuing non-traditional, second-year student seeking a Technical Degree. The recipient must reside within SEARK College’s six county service area of Cleveland, Desha, Drew, Grant, Jefferson, and Lincoln counties., have minimum GPA of 2.5 (4.0 scale), and must enroll in at least 6 credit hours.
Pinchback Taylor Scholarship -Recipient must be enrolled full-time or part-time in the fall semester. High school seniors may apply but preference should be given to nontraditional students. Financial need and potential to succeed in college are the primary factors considered. Students must provide all information requested in the application.
Abbott Scholarship – Recipient must be a resident of Pine Bluff, AR and enrolled at Southeast Arkansas College. No minimum G.P.A.; Student must show good character and need. The scholarship will be used for tuition and other school related expenses.
Dejarnette Family Scholarship – Recipient must reside within SEARK College’s six county service area of Cleveland, Desha, Drew, Grant, Jefferson, and Lincoln counties, seeking an Associate or Technical Degree and enrolled full-time or part-time.
Archie Sanders State Farm A2B Scholarship - First time college student who is seeking concurrent degrees at both SEARK and UAPB, a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5 (4.0 scale), must enroll in 9 credit hours at SEARK and 3 credit hours at UAPB and must provide a short (at least 200 words) essay explaining your need for the scholarship.
