COVID-19 SEARK's Response

Save AR Students Kick-off Rally

This year Southeast Arkansas College will join forces with other colleges and universities to combat substance abuse across the state of Arkansas. We will be participating in the “Save AR Students” substance abuse awareness week on April 19-23, 2021.  The official kick-off will be held on the steps of the State Capitol with Governor Asa Hutchinson and others.

SEARK will host our kick-off rally on Monday, April 19th at 2:00 p.m. in the Retention and Advising Office inside the Student Affairs building.  We will be distributing informational flyers on prescription drugs, alcohol, prescription opioids, etc., as well as t-shirts and other materials to increase awareness. There will also be a table set-up in the library during the week with awareness materials. The weeklong event leads up to the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 24th. You can check https://takebackday.dea.gov/ for collection sites near you.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, in 2017 Arkansas has the 2nd highest opioid prescription rate in the country at a rate of 105.4 percent per 100 persons and based on information from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration, youth ages 18-25 are at the highest rate for illicit drug use at 22.7 percent. Additionally, 9.9% of College students are abusing Adderall compared to 6.2% of Non-College adults according to drugabuse.org. Adderall is a stimulant effect on the central nervous system that can be both physically and psychologically addictive when overused.

Join us in increasing awareness.
