Emergency Medical Sciences - Paramedic

Program Description

The Emergency Medical Sciences - Paramedic program prepares students to perform advanced emergency medical procedures in the pre-hospital setting. Students are trained in theory and a variety of technical skills. Upon completion of the program, the student is granted a Technical Certificate or an Associate of Applied Science degree and is eligible to apply to take the National Registry EMT-Paramedic Certification Examination.

Application Procedures and Deadline

This program is closed to new applications at this time.

Classes are admitted in August. Class size is limited, and all applicants are not selected for participation.

Application Deadline: 2nd Friday in April.

*Deadline may remain open until qualified candidates are selected for all available slots in the class.

Acceptance Procedure

Should the qualified applicants exceed the available slots in the program, admission into a particular class will be based on the date of completed application. Upon acceptance into the Emergency Medical Sciences program, the student must submit evidence of the following in order to begin classes: The cost of the subscription Drug Screen and Criminal Background Check is the student’s expense.

Current CPR Certification (AHA Health Care Provider or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer).
Functional Ability acknowledgement form
P.P.D. Skin Test or Chest X-Ray
Hepatitis B Series or Signature on SEARK Vaccination Waiver Claim Form.

Criminal Background Check

Students enrolled in Allied Health programs with a clinical component will be assessed a fee for malpractice insurance.

NOTE: Random drug screening may be utilized at any time during the course of the program at the students’ expense.

Advising

Counselors and faculty advisors are available to aid students in course selection and future planning.

Admission Requirements

High School Diploma (or GED Equivalency)
Completion of all general admissions procedure of the College.
Completion of the Nursing and Allied Health Application for Admission form.
Provide one or all of the following test scores for reading and math
- Accuplacer Math score of at least 77
- Compass Math score of at least 41
- ACT Math 19
- Next Generation Accuplacer Math at least 255
- Accuplacer Reading score of at least 75
- Next Generation Accuplacer Reading score of at least 250 ACT Reading score of at least 19
- COMPASS Reading score of at least 83, OR
- Completion of a course in developmental reading an math with a letter grade of C or better OR
- Completion of 15 semester hours of general education applicable to the program with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
Copy of current EMT-Basic Certification Card

Students pursuing the Associate of Applied Science degree in Emergency Medical Sciences must meet placement standards set by the College prior to enrolling in math and/or English composition courses.

Financial Aid

For students who qualify, financial aid consists of funds made available from federal, state, and local sources. Scholarships, grants, loans, and Veteran's benefits are available to qualified students. Scholarships may be available from the Arkansas Ambulance Association.
